Well, technically Pantone’s colour of 2018 has been announced as Ultra Violet (or Pantone 18-3838). How do the colour experts decide on their colour of the year? It’s based on in-depth research on the mood of the current culture. You may be a little surprised that the seemingly optimistic colour might be considered representative of the global times, however in an interview with the New York Times, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute, Ms Eiseman said “we wanted to pick something that brings hope and an uplifting message.”
“It communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking”
Ultra Violet is said to be a popular colour for creativity, the wellness movement and representative of a range of different causes. For Pantone’s colour of 2018, they have looked to be proactive about creating a positive change in culture, rather than a moody reflection of the state of the world. Champion ultra violet as an uplifting message this year!
